As you can see I have a full week planned. I am an Art teacher and I`m all about moving from STEM to Steam. My school is planning on getting 3d printers and that workshop should be very interesting. This blog has nothing to do with WEB 2.0 tools but I plan on learning all about them at the convention. I wish this class was meeting during then.

I would be excited too! Last year, I participated a few STEAM workshops through Northwestern University and they were absolutely insightful. I have no art background but I walked away with great ideas in mind. Last week during spring camp at a youth center, I had the opportunity to incorporate a few of these activities. A few to mention, architecture (engineering, art & math) Micro pipetting (biology, art & math). While at my workplace, there are no plans to transition to STEAM. This is something I am not very happy about because we’ve had a few requests from our audience. I asked the director for a reason, no answer…
The agenda you shared does have some interesting workshops. I would love for you to share and so I would like to suggest to keep our blog going even after we are done with this class 🙂

Hi Matthew, have a wonderful time! You will learn so much, the trick is using what you learn…I love going to conferences, I find wonderful new ideas. Of course some days I’m more successful in synthesizing what I’ve learned, other days, not so much…but that’s ok, it’s great to get out there and see what’s the latest and coolest. It helps to recharge our lessons. As an art teacher I think that’s very important, moving from STEM to STEAM. The more subjects can be integrated, the better for our learners. Basically we are all teaching roughly the same skill set, so we should show our students how to transfer. I would love to hear your thoughts about the personalized learning session, too. I’m trying to do that in my reading class, and it’s kinda easy with the online reading program we use, but there’s more to it than that, so I’m struggling. I think that’s one of the directions (personalized learning) education is headed.
Anyways I hope you learn a ton and have a fabulous time!

Anyway this looks like a really cool schedule. I’d love to attend one of these ISTE conferences. This reminds me that my ISTE membership just expired. I need to renew that!
I hope I get to see some sort of update on the conference and how the edtech upgrades are going in your school. It’s a shame my university does not really focus too much on STEM fields.

I would be excited as well! Just by reading your topics I could see a very informative convention. I, myself attended a few PDs last summer through Northwestern University. Some topics involved biology with micropippeting and arts. The other one was architecture, math with art design. Both sessions were quite interesting and I may say I walked away with many ideas. I will agree that recently, the idea of adding the arts to STEM programs has been gaining momentum.
I am interested in following your blog after this class. Are you considering on keeping up with it? I think that we are all learning from each other as it would be impossible to explore everything that is out there. So I am grateful to how the professor has this set up.

ISTE is going to blow/melt your mind. I have been going for the past 2 years and it is by far the best educational conference I have ever attended. Looking at your list of workshops, you are going to love them. Are you doing the paid workshops for this conference? If so, I would also recommend checking out the free sessions during the week. Also, zSpace stopped by our school a few weeks ago to demo their product. It is really cool, but lacking content and is crazy expensive. I would lean towards Google Cardboard or the Oculus Rift personally. Last but not least, for the STEAM stuff, you need to do the ISTE Unplugged event on Saturday. This sounds like an amazing trip packed with awesome activities. I am especially interested in the 3D printing and robots seminar. I am trying to convince my administration to purchase a 3D printer. I have read multiple articles that it helps students with Dyslexia, by allowing them to create an object from an idea, instead of trying to communicate it through writing or reading. I hope your trip is a success and this is something I will have to keep in mind for next year.
